Brenton Kovacs's Travels
8/12 to 10/12
Nothing exciting happened over the last 3 days. Just cruised the local Sedona area, and visited Prescott, Jerome and Cottonwood. Jerome is a little mining town perched on the side of a mountain. The town dates back a long time, so there were some very old buildings to see. The road to Jerome was tight and twisty and steep. We were rewarded with some stunning views of the Sedona valley.
We have been so lucky with the weather. Beautiful blue skies everyday. Magnificent sunsets every night.
11/12
Departed Sedona at around 8.30am. The drive to Springdale took us 5 hours. Springdale is at the entrance to Zion National Park. The main road from the park entrance to the visitors center was amazing. The 12 mile drive took us many hours, lots of photo stops. Will explore more of the park tomorrow.
Checked into the Driftwood Lodge motel. Very nice and quiet, located just outside the park entrance. It is so nice being here at off peak season. No traffic in the park. Really cheap accommodation. No queues to see the sights. A lot of this town has shut down. Most food places are shut, a lot of hotels are closed for the season. We had roast chicken and vegetables for tea from the supermarket. The chicken was $4 and the frozen veggie pack was $1. So we also indulged in a home made banana and walnut cake for $2, which is so big it will last us a week. Cant beat that.
