Brenton Kovacs's Travels
4th
We arrived into Bangkok without any dramas. As we flew business class we were given and express immigration pass, which saved us at least an hour. I opted to take the taxi from the airport rather than take the airport train. Big mistake. Not only did it take longer, but the drivers are not shy at trying to ripe you off. Only went the taxi route from advice offered by our host.
The apartment we have is large, clean, quiet and comfortable. It is a little way out form the main part of Bangkok, but we are within walking distance to the sky train.
5th
Spent the day looking around Siam Square, a very large shopping mall area. The Thailand food festival has a lot of stalls selling good cheap food, so we will not go hungry.
6th
Shauna is taking a break from me for a few days as her boy friend is flying in to spend the weekend with her. So i wont see her again till the 9th.
7th, 8th
Spent these days wandering the main streets of Bangkok and the little markets along the streets. So much fake stuff. You can even buy a fake iphone6 for under $150. I avoid buying, but its neat to watch suckers think they are getting a bargain. Went out to the weekend markets on Sunday. The place is huge, 27 acres. That was a mistake. So many people, crowded little shops, hot and stuffy, and the constant repetition of the same stuff being sold. Oh well i came, i saw, thats enough.
9th
My last day before Shauna returns. Her boy friend is leaving today, so she will no doubt be a little upset tonight when she returns back to the apartment.
10th
Glad to have Shauna back. We get out and about doing some shopping, well Shauna is doing the shopping, i am doing the carrying.
11, 12, 13th
Spent these few days relaxing and visiting markets, shops and trying a variety of different foods to eat. Weather has been good if you like the heat. It does make you tired after a day of walking, but we seem to recover after a good sleep.
14th
Today we went out to Maeklong Railway Markets, or otherwise known as the folding umbrella markets. Its a 1.5 hour drive south of Bangkok. Wasnt that keen on going, but i wasnt going to stop Shauna from seeing these markets. If you google it you can read all about them. It would have to be one of the dirtiest and smelly markets we have seen, but it was all about the train that runs through the markets. Anyway after we saw the train it was back to Bangkok. The traffic on the return trip was horrendous. We were down to a crawl. Which re-mind's me the other day were took a cab and it took us 50 minutes to travel 10ks. It wasnt even peak hour! Hate the traffic here, but the skytrain is great.
Tomorrow we are getting a lift by car to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Hopefully we will arrive in one piece and i can continue writing this blog.
