Brenton Kovacs's Travels
19/12
Nothing much planned today. Did some local sight seeing, and drove to Teton Village. We have now traveled 6,500 kilometers, and only have roughly another 4,000 ks to go before we arrive back in Denver. The cost of driving has been relatively cheap in regards to fuel. Fuel is around 75 cents a litre, and is still coming down.

After a 2.5 hour drive we arrive in West Yellowstone. The day started off really foggy with very low visibility, slow going. Our fist stop is to see the Wolves and Bears in a special enclosure. They bring out 2 grizzlys at a time and you get to see them rip apart branches where the rangers have buried food. To see 2 full adult Grizzly bears about 10 feet away is pretty scary, they are huge!
The 2 cubs that came out next were ever so cute, but were very cautious of us humans being so close to them.
The wolves were just as amazing. There have 2 separate packs of wolves ( 4 wolves in each pack) separated by a building with a viewing area so you can watch both packs. We watched them for a few hours as they played and fought over food. We even got to see one of the packs howling. Such and cool looking dog, but would not like to come across a pack of them in the wild.

Today we spent in Yellowstone National Park. Was a little disappointing. The tour we booked was meant to be a in a special snow coach, instead a mini bus turned up. Was not happy. According to the driver there was not enough snow, but we did see other companies driving in the park with there snow coaches. The only point of interest in Yellowstone was Old Faithful Geyser. Apart from the Geyser, Yellowstone was a let down.
Our next stop is Great Falls, Montana.

Awoke to what we that was a beautiful day. From the hotel window it was clear blue skies. We packed our bags and headed to the car parked outside the hotel. Well opening the hotel door and walking outside was a huge shock. It was extremely cold. Opened the car door but they were stuck. Used some force and they opened. Tried to start the car, and it barely turned over. It did fire up after about 10 seconds, and made some horrible noises, before idling ok. It was then that i saw the temperature on the gauges, minus 18F, which is close to minus 26C.
This is the coldest we have seen, minus 26C. Everything inside the car was either frozen or stuck from the cold. When i put the car into reverse it did want to go any where. So we spent a few minutes warming the engine, and trying to get some visibility from the frozen windows, inside and outside. Could not hold the steering wheel properly as it was just too cold.
The drive today took a few hours longer due to the extreme cold. The roads were frozen, and there was lots of ice on the road, very slippery. As we headed further north into Montana, the scenery went from Mountains to the wide open, windy plains. Nothing exciting to see here.
