Brenton Kovacs's Travels
27th
Neither of us are wanting to leave our little piece of jungle paradise. It is such a cool place, even if the night time noises are very loud. Still slept ok. Anyway we pack up and leave for the airport. We arrive in Honolulu at 2pm. After collecting the hire car and as we are heading to our accommodation i realise i have left my backpack in another hire car at Alamo. At Alamo you get to choose which car you want, but Shauna changed her mind, and i had already put my bag in that car, and of course forgot to get it out. I start to panic as the backpack has passports, computers etc. All the real valuable stuff. Luckily someone handed the bag in, so i managed to get my heart rate back to normal. That was a very scary time.
Anyway we arrived at our accommodation. It is a nice cottage on a very upmarket property in a rather wealthy area of Honolulu.
After getting some supplies from the supermarket, we head into Waikiki beach for an evening walk. The weather is nice and mild, slightly windy with some small rain drops.
28th
Our first day is spent driving north along the east coast, then turning left and head west. There are many vista points along the way, which we stop and admire the views. The trade winds are blowing rather strong, and the rain is on and off for most of the day. As we head west we come across the famous Pipeline beach. The surf is big, but no one is out surfing.
The drive south takes us through Pineapple country. So much of the land here is used for growing pineapples.
There is an open house next door so we take a look inside. Asking price is $4 million plus. Its very opulent. The agent tells us that the street we are staying on is the most expensive street in Hawaii. We are only 1 minute walk to the beach and park. There is a house down the road that has an asking price of $22 million, but it is not open for inspecton
Later in the evening we take a walk along Waikiki Blvd to see whats on offer.
29th
First up we visit Pearl Harbour, but as the winds are still high, they cancel the boat tour that takes you to see the Arizona Memorial. Will try another day. The rest of the day is spent sightseeing.
30th
Today we head back to the north shore to visit Waimea Falls. Shauna decides to go for a swim in the rather cold waters of the waterfall. The valley here is very picturesque. Next we stop at turtle beach to see the turtles. And yes there are plenty of large turtles swimming very close to the shore. Plenty of people here watching them bobbing around in the water.
Another windy day so no good at Pearl Harbour to see the Memorial.
1st
A short drive takes us to Tantalus Park. It offers great views of Waikiki and Diamond Head. Plus this area is super lush rain forest. Next stop is Manoa Falls. Magnificent rain forest here. The falls are at the end of a rather long and muddy walk through the forest, but worth every bit of sweat and suffering.
We then head back to Waikiki where Shaua takes a dip in the Lagoon while i head off for a walk. Another great day
2rd
Finally the wind has died down enough for us to be able to visit the Arizona Memorial. After this we visit the Pali lookout, where the wind is so strong it is hard to stand still, let alone hold a camera and take a picture. Another great day
3rd
Today we start with a walk along the beach, then a short drive up to a lookout in the mountains. Great view of Honolulu and surroundings. Then its back to Waikiki so Shauna can do some last minute shopping.
4th
We try and make the day pass as slow as possible, as its our last day together in Hawaii. Shauna heads home on the 5th, and i head over to Las Vegas, where i collect a hire car and head towards the Grand Canyon.
First we take a hike to the top of Diamond Head. Its not that hard and take about 2 hours return
Next Shauna spends a few hours on Waikiki beach while i go for a walk. We make the most tea time by eating our dinner in the park by the beach.
Tomorrow will be a very sad and emotional day for both of us. I am sure tears will flow. Shauna flys out at 9.15am, so i will drop her at the airport, and then come back to our house as i dont fly out till 3pm. I knew this day would come, but it is still going to be hard to deal with. We had 4 fantastic months together, and only really had one argument. I hope i have given Shauna lifetime memories that she will cherish forever. I know that the memories she has given me will last for the rest of my life.
