Brenton Kovacs's Travels
21/11/11
Arrived in LAX tired, but ready to go. Grabbed the rental from Alamo and headed to the hotel. Not sure if they would check us in at 9am. No problems, it was great to have a shower and change.
22/11/11
Headed out to the Nethercut car museum about 30 miles north, only to find it is closed on Monday. So we headed to the LA auto show instead. Nothing special to see this time.
23/11/11
After a good sleep we headed north again to Nethercutt. This museum contains so many magnificently restored cars. Spent a few hours here before heading back to the hotel. Starting to feel normal after catching up on some sleep.
24/11/11
Today we had lunch with Chad and Eric from Sudco. The food at TJI Fridays was great. The guys wanted to head off from work early as it was thanksgiving eve, so we headed home along the 405. Big mistake! the traffic was horrendous. A 10 mile trip took an hour. The madness on the highway was unbelievable. We were glad to get back to the hotel without incident.
25/11/11
Flew from LAX to Denver and spent the night in Denver. This was meant to be the busiest day of the year for flying. No delays saw us landing on time. Nearly the whole of the USA shuts down on Thanksgiving, so getting something to eat for dinner was a problem. All the fast food chains were shut. Luckily there was a ma and pa restaurant next to the hotel, so we indulged in a 3 course dinner for $12. We had soup, turkey with vegetables, and a strawberry and rhubarb pie. We had to take it back to the hotel as the restaurant was booked out, but luckily they did takeaway.

Drove from Denver to Breckenridge, about 2 hours drive. Nothing exciting today. Staying in the Grand Timber Lodge, which is s time share place. Lots of noisy kids. I expect it to quieten down when most go back home on Sunday.
27/11/11
Drove to Vail and wandered around Vail and Lions head. Weather is all blue sky, but the temperature is a rather chilly 3 c.
After tea went for a drive to get some night photos. Its pitch black outside. There is a lot of snow on the road, so we drive slowlly up the mountain to find a parking spot. My only concern is getting stranded on a lonely back road. The temperature has now dropped to minus 16c. We spent about 20 minutes outside before the pain of being cold took hold. This is the coldest we have experienced so far. Got some great pictures before the camera starting to show signs of being too cold.
28/11/11
A pleasant drive to Aspen today. There is hardly any snow at Aspen, its all man made. This is one of their worst seasons so far. Unfortunatley the road to Maroon Bells was closed.
So far the weather has been beautiful blue skies from sun up to sun down. We are expecting a storm on Wednesday night with temperature well below freezing.
29/11/11
Drove to Leadvillle today. This is on old mining town with some really interesting history. Same again not much snow. Apparantley this time of year they have had at least 1 metre of snow.
It is a lot quieter at the Lodge now that nearly all the guests have gone.

Adrya Well it is good to hear from you and read your journal - always interesting and see Alan's photos - they are very good, professional in fact. Your photo taking is now quite exceptional Alan. Are you pleased with the images?Incredible scenery - probably the best so far. Looks pretty cold though. I love the blue and grey vehicle, looked like an old jag? Seeing how you both reacted to the iPad purchase we made I could see that you have never used Apple. When you do, you realise many things. Apple was so advanced. While Microsoft were messing around with QDOS, Apple developed a fully object oriented operating system. Where do you think Microsoft got its ideas for Windows? Secondly, Apple is very advanced and sophisticated and intuitive to use - a pleasure to use and thirdly, anything has got to be better than the dreaded Windows we have been made to accept in its current state of bugs and inadequacies. Spoken by a previous Apple employee - yes I worked on campus at ANU as their student rep. They gave me the use of my first computer a twin SE. They were a great company to work for, they really take care of their employees and make it so much fun. In fact you could prbably get a job with them Alan, or are you going to be a full time student all your life?
