Saturday 22nd June- weather still perfect- warm late afternoon but beautifully cool mornings.
Far more confident driver today - so off we go to Pont du Gard- amazing Roman aquaduct - sheer brilliance in engineering and construction. How did they do it??? Well - they had cheap labour I guess.
Then to Arles - passing thru Tarascon where we stopped to look at a medieval castle and happened upon the parade of “castle folk” going for a stroll.
Arles is a Von Gogh and history buff heaven. Roman theatres, Crypts, baths, colosseum theatre - and more. We had lunch here in Van Gogh’s Yellow Cafe.
Then to Les Baux de Provence- stopping at a 2000 ad crypt on the way - Hypogee du Castelet.Les Baux has a castle dug in to a rock cliff - and many cute laneways. We had wanted to go to Carriers de Luminier here but just couldn’t juggle the times.
Too tired to eat out - provisions bought on way back to apartment
