Two funny things happened this morning.
Firstly, the bunk bed I slept in broke. I was on the top bunk when all of the wooden slats broke and came down on the girl sleeping below me. She is ok. We told the hostel people but they didn't seem surprised or interested. Wasn't funny early this morning, but we are laughing about it now!
Second funny thing- had breakfast with the girls again, when this old guy that does the cooking in the hostel gave me a "treat". Gave it a go- turns out it was chewing tobacco. So gross! I politely smiled, went to the bathroom and spat it out. My whole mouth was black! Yuck! So they were my two funny things to get the day started:)
Bit of an up and down day. This morning another girl and I got hopelessly lost trying to get to the markets. Did find the Islamic art museum though which was just beautiful.
Found the markets in the afternoon. Spent way too much money and got ripped off a bit, but had a great time. I'm not really even that bothered about being ripped off. The thing is, if they sell something to me for an extra 50 egyptian pounds... So what? That's like $10 Australian. I bought some nice things. My main investment was this beautiful Egyptian rug from this little store that had these men making them by hand. It's really very beautiful and cost me 800 Egyptian pounds. Very happy. Problem is it weighs so much I've had to post it home... So we'll see how good the Egyptian post is! Also bought a lovely scarf, black shoes, and two perfumes. Good shopping really.
Down side of the day was that when I got lost this morning, I was lost in a really dodgy part of Islamic Cairo. Was yelled at quite a few times and spat at twice. Funnily enough both times it was old women spitting at me. I suppose though you get the not so nice people no matter which city you're in. Also met some lovely people today. One of the guys that works in the hostel (I think he may be Dina's son...?) wrote out every thing I could possibly need for the next couple of days on these little flash cards for me in Arabic. So this afternoon I needed to get to the post office... I just pulled out my little post office flash card. Awesome.
This afternoon I also met up again with my Egyptian friend from the other day. That was nice. Tonight I have shifted to a hotel in the Dokki region of Cairo. Just met up with the tour group. There's five of us. All seem friendly.
Also had best meal tonight- koshari. Traditional meal with noodles, tomatoes, lentils etc. Was yum yum!
Love to all!!
Ps- 3 days in Egypt and I'm now covered in mozzie bites. All over my face too. They get me when I'm sleeping.
Pps- cats everywhere! Every corner there's like 10 cats!!
