From cape bridgewater we took the princes highway which after going thru rainforest came out to the great ocean road......our first glimpse of this special coastline was a view of the bay of islands.......this was Sunday afternoon and sunshine.....that soon turned to a storm by the time we got to our motel for an overnight stop....I felt overwhelming tired and Port Campbell I haven't much recollection of!....the next morning I was disappointed to see wind and rain pelting down...we set off along the most spectacular coastline....but the weather actually enhanced the dramatic theater of the wild seas crashing in to the eroding cliffs....it was certainly powerful to feast our eyes on.....
The twelve apostles, the magnificent rock stacks are the well known highlight of this road, even so I don't think I was prepared to be so awe struck by them...the seas were wild!...thankfully it stopped raining just as we arrived otherwise I doubt I'd have got out of the car and walked along the tracks to view it....
The ocean road then heads inland and you wonder after about an hour in deep dense rainforest with tall trees, lush ferns and overgrowth when you are going to see the ocean again. Then it opens up to a winding ocean road that seems endless with the still wild sea crashing against the rocks...we travelled along this wiggly thin road to our next stop...Lorne.....we've rented a wooden house high above Lorne in the rainforest.
