After arriving in Venice in the early hours of the morning and a few hours sleep in Italy, we headed on to Slovenia for lunch in Portoroz in one of the cheapest campsites so far with one of the most stunning views. We were waterside, looking across to Piran and as the sun shone and we spread out across about 4 pitches we had already forgotten the late night ferry.
We got on the bikes and headed North on the Parenzana cycle path (the Health and Friendship route) through Portoroz and into Piran. We were astounded by the number of people out and and about in both towns - walking, cycling and roller skating or just enjoying the sun in the cafes - it felt like holiday time! And so after a quick explore of Piran and a climb to the Bell Tower to try and recreate the picture on the front cover of our Lonely Planet, we joined in...a play on the beach (Daniel heading into the crystal clear sea whilst we watched), an ice cream and a chilled beer just watching the world go by before returning to Bob and a barbecue as we watched possibly the most beautiful sunset so far.
Loving our first day in Slovenia!
