Left Boston in the rain and drove all day in it!! Travelled up though Vermont and saw three covered bridges at Townshend, Jamaica Village and Dummerston. Absolutely fantastic to see. Each one very different, hope to see more whilst we are here. Arrived in Manchester Village at the Equinox Resort at 1pm then off into the Village to get the laundry done.
Ate at Mulligans in the evening, Bob had Beef Stew and Lesley Sausage and Mash, real comfort food on a wet day. Forecast for tomorrow is a lot better.
Sunday 1st October. Up at 7.30am spoke to Mum & Dad and then Mandy on Skype. Then over to the reception to speak to the local guide. He told us to go to the following, Farmers Market in Dorset, Mt Equinox Skyline Drive and Outlook Rock, then Arlington to see the Covered Bridges. We left at 9.15am, went to the Dorset Famers Market, found a fantastic General Store in Dorset, great produce at the Farmers Market, then drove to the foot of Mt Equinox, paid our toll at the "Toll House" and started the 3848 feet climb to the summit. Views were absolutely stunning. We stopped a couple of times on the way up, lots of photo opportunities. On arrival at the top Lesley decided we would walk the 15 minutes to Outlook Rock, which looks over the Manchester Valley. Beautiful views but took us an hour to do it, due to the incline on the return. Drove down from the summit and moved onto Arlington to find two more covered bridges. Stopped for lunch at Chauncey's and a look in the Christmas Days Shop for Lesley. We also saw the house where Normal Rockwell lived and worked. Back to the hotel for a swim, Hot Tub and Sauna. Out for dinner at 7 to Henry's Bistro, what a meal. Lesley Crab Cake and Bob Mussels, then Seafood Linguine for Lesley with Scallops, crabs legs and Lobster tails. For Bob Parmesan encrusted sole in a lemon and caper sauce. Lesley stepped into the unknown with a dessert, Nectarine Raspberry With Vanilla Ice Cream. For Bob Grand Marnier Creme Brûlée. Bottle of Muscadet to go with it, all of the food was glorious, perfect end to a perfect day.
