Arrived well and safe in Boston after a long day travelling. Settled into the W Hotel and then up this morning to discover Boston. First things first breakfast at Panera Breads then Got the T down to Government Central and walked to Quincy Market. Fantastic Area and some great food. Decided then that Harvard had to be our next stop. So back on the T and off to Harvard. Looked around Harvard and you can see why people around the world want to study there. Saw Johnstons Gate, University Hall and the John Harvard Statue, Widener Library, Memorial Church, Memorial Hall, Massachusetts Hall and the Founders Cemetery. You can see it is a fountain of knowledge. Then off to the "Big "Green" Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. Great and famous sporting arena. After that time for lunch at the Tilted Kilt at Fenway Park. Then back on the T to Park Street and a walk through Boston Common, past Frog Pond to 84 Beacon Street a "place where everyone knows your name" most famously Cheers Bar. Had to have a beer in there, then a walk back along Beacon to see the Massachusetts State House. By then just about walked out so the T back to Boylston Street & the hotel. Out for dinner at a little Italian Erbaluce in the theatre district. Sardines for starters and then pigs cheeks for Lesley and Carbonara for Bob. Excellent food and sat next to a lovely couple from Beacon Hill. Bob wanted a beer after dinner so ended up in O'Connors bar close to the hotel. Met a lovely couple from Boston, Mary Kathryn and Sean both teachers in Boston. Have to say we kicked the bottom out of the barrel. Just a record from the Red Sox fan, lost again tonight but there is always tomorrow. PUSB
Monday Oct 2nd back in Boston overnight after a beautiful drive back from a Manchester Village in Vermont. Left there at 9am and in Boston for 12. Spent the afternoon ticking a few more boxes, ferry ride over to the Charlestown Naval Yard. Saw The USS Constitution and then walked up to the monument at Bunker Hill. Bob climbed to the top, all 294 steps, to get some great views over Boston. Then walked down the Hill to the Warren Tavern for a much needed beer. This Tavern is believed to be the oldest building in Charlestown dating back to 1780. Charlestown was burnt down in June 1775 after the British took Bunker Hill. After that caught the T back to Southside to see the two ships from the Boston Tea Party and the Museum.
