Hi from Utila, the Bay Islands, Honduras
Well this is supposed to be the cheapest place in the world to get diving accreditation, so thats what we did. The course was 5 days, and was theory as well as practical. As well as that, we did 2 fun dives that were included in the price. Accomodation for 4 nights was also provided, and we got the course for 268 US each.
Found out that Dave actually breathes more than the average person and ran out of air twice under water. Not very cool. But we saw some awesome stuff, and on the last day, a professional photographer came with us and video taped us under water. The video came out pretty good, we`ll have to show everyone when we get home.
When we went to leave the island, it turned out that there was a ferry strike, and we couldn´t catch a ferry. Because wehad a flight first thing in the morning the next day, we had to find other means. A privateboat offered to take people across for the same price as the ferry. We didn´t get on the first one, which ended up being a good thing, because it returned about half an hour later with engine trouble. To top it off, the driver had used the money that he´d collected from his passengers for fuel, and some of them didn´t get their money back.
So we chartered a plane to the mainland, which cost 175 US for 3 seats. After that, everything went relatively smoothly, for once we had enough money to eat a real meal on the last night in the country. We got on the plane at 7am the next day- to Mexico city.
