Hiya!!!
OK guys so we've made it up to Hervey Bay, this is where we get across to Fraser Island the largest sand island in the world. We were wuite sleepy after the bus ride up so we just joined in on the all you can eat Pizza in the hostel there was 27 of us in total and alot of Pizza!! The guy from the hostel said he heard some people saying they were going to come down and steal the pizza so he got out only 27 plates and you weren't allowed any if you had no plate, anyway a lad came and filled 2 boxes with loads of pizza and decided to eat in his room so he questioned the girl who was with him and sure enough they hadn't paid so he proper names and shamed them infront of everyone lots of booing and hissing and they never shopwed there faces again!! We met up with Allenca again she had just done Fraser and they all seemed so excited about it which made us really excited but we went to bed at a reasonable time as we had to check out by 6:30am.
6:30am came and we were up and out, headed for the TV room for our briefing on how to drive on sand, hazards like washouts on the beach oh yeah and the Dongi's and how to be dingo safe which involves crossing your arms across your chest with your hand on your shoulders and backing away slowly, should they attack act aggressivly!!! that's it!!! so we got put in our teams, it was us the 4 Essex boys, 2 girls from London Sarah and Caroline and a Swedish girl Anika (she was mental!!!). We drove off and picked up our camping gear, tents, Eski's etc then headed to Woolworths (not the same as home not that they are around anymore so I hear!!) to get our food, we decided on BBQ for the first night and Spag Bol for the second, it was a nightmare!!! anyhoo we got through it as team 2 we were troopers!!! so we drove to the ferry terminal Paul was slightly traumatised as he drove first and as he was reversing to get on the ferry it pulled away from him eeek could you imagine if he didn't notice!!! haha So Fraser island is actually massive!!! and when I saw we were off roading it is really off roading we thought we were going to topple over afew times and everything is packed in the roof tres top heavy, we started by going to Lake Waddy, AMAZING!!!! its a fresh water lake you can swim in there were cat fish that come up to you and there is a massive sand dune right next to it so if you have a boogy board you can slide down the dune on it into the water!! the boys played shoulder wars and it was just so much fun. Anyway the tide was down so we could head for the beach which is more of a highway and find where we were going to camp for the night (this is literally just a patch behind the sand dunes not in a camp site or anything, which means being Dingo safe you have to go in pairs to the toilet and off you go to dig a hole, so degrading!!!). We got the tents up and started cooking 2 of the other groups camped near us but we pretty much stayed with our group on the first night. We ate Burgers and sausages LUSH!!! so the boys we're off doing something and Sarah, Caroline, Anika, Andy and I were just laying on some tarp looking at Orions belt when Caroline say's "Don't panick anyone but there is a Dingo right in front of us and one to the right!!!" Well sure enough there it was about a meter away from us so me and Andy stood up and it backed off, then later on that night we saw one licking our BBQ plate!!!
The next morning we had to get up really early as you can't drive 3 hours either side of high tide, we were late and it was my turn to drive!!! wegot on the beach and hammered it, I did a little bit of the inland driving too so much fun, then back on the beach and we got to the Champagne Pools with about 10 mins to spare before high tide!! The Champagne pools are so pretty, just a loads of rocks, and the water smashes over them but it's the only place you can swim in the sea as there are loads of blue bottle jellys and it's a breeding ground for Tiger Sharks. It was so so hot and the tide came right up, Pauls towel got washed up in one of the waves, nightmare. the boys decided to dunk me so my hair was solid and we had no wash facilities!! ERGH!!
So we decided to make a move as we need to get some ice from somewhere for the Eski and so our mince wasn't ruined. Then mince was soaked through and kinda looked a funny colour oops!!! so we had lunch and moved up to Indian Head the highest point there, you cna look out over the sea and see stuff, we saw 3 rays, a turtle kept coming up for air but we desperatly wanted to see a shark, and then it happened I spotted it, Paul nearly threw himself off the cliff when I said it as he wasnted to see it too, just swesome!!! (obvioulsy not Paul throwing himself off the cliff I kinda like having him around!!!) so the tide was down and again and we could haed for the beach, We stopped and the shipwreck and cracked open a beer, SOOOOOO NICE!!! we forgot to film our goon advert though as in my head I thought Goon was what it was called and imagined a box with Goon in pirate writing on the side but no it's just boxed wine!!! anyhoo we moved on to Eli Creek where we saw a guy in a rubber ring just going down in the current with beer in hand and we decided he was the most chilled man in the wolrd!!! We headed for camp, all the cars camped together this night and we had such a laugh but there were alot of Dingos this night Paul spent most of the night pointing them out to people shouting DINGO DINGO, he was our Dingo watchman!! At the end of the night I had to go to the toilet and there was only about 5 people left up so Paul came with me and we came across 3 dingos fighting over a bin bag so we went the other way up the beach then 2 more dingos followed us into camp and we decided that the dingos were starting to our number the people and that we should all go to bed, luckily me and Paul had the only tent with a zip the girls and the boys tent didn't so anything could have got in there!!!
Last day, we headed for Central station Anika was driving she is nuts and tried to run 2 of the boys over by reversing over them as they were trying to get in the car!!! we were all very scared for our lives I think!! we did a short walk down a creek then we headed for Lake McKenzie!!! It's just like a beach just fresh water, absolutly beautiful!! it was so hot as well we just couldn't keep out of the water. Then we had to get back, pump the tyres up, put the car back in 2 wheel drive, get on the ferry, where Drew fell asleep they left him and got the captin to wake him up tee hee. Then we got back and there was the fight for the showers, I have never been so covered in sand for so long!!! We still have plenty of goon left but we decided on an early night and to make the most of having an actual bed to sleep in.
Today we are heading for 1770 the last place we can surf a guy called Neil said he'll teach us can't wait!!!
So I hope all is well back at home and that y'all are looking after one another!!
