My final day in Vietnam, i did a trip to the Cu Chi tunnels. On the way we stopped at a factory that employs people handicapped by the effects of agent orange to produce handicrafts. The tunnels were really interesting although i was only half way through my book about them! I crawled through one that was 40 metres long and so narrow the guys in the group couldnt get through the hole! There were bats in there and total darkness and i found it amazing to think that people could stay in them for up to 15 days without seeing the light and spend 10 years living in these tunnels. We were shown the booby traps that the Viet Cong made and how they were hidden, how they used the unexploded american bombs to make their own grenades to thrrow bacjk at them, and an underground hospital, which i doubt could make you very healthy again. We learnt about the guerrilla tactics and how extensive the tunnel network was. In the afternoon i went to the War Remnanats museum which documented more abuot the war in general and the devices and equipment used by both sides. Met a canadian and a Kiwi in there and after we went to the crazy market and i did a little shopping! We went for dinner in a place that did great Vietnamese food then went for a few drinks, meeting an English couple who were celebrating their first wedding anniversary but seemed to want to celebrate it with us! The next morning i packed up and got the bus to the border. We arrived in Cambodia in time for lunch and then later on in Phnom Penh. Met a great group of people and we are all staying in the same area. We all went for some great Cambodian food last night then out for a few drinks in an Irish bar, then a floating bar then along the riverfront. Had a great night. This morning i felt i deserved a lie in and after a visit to the British embassy, which is not easy to get into! i have my glasses and can read what i am typing again!
