Hey everyone!!
Hate to say it but had another amazing day on Maggie Island!! Got up and went on the 10am tour of the animal sanctuary which is literally at the back of our little hut where we are sleeping!! Went in and saw some little turtles to start with!! The headed into the birds part, saw two lovely birds, one white with the yellow fan on its head and a black with red tail!! Got to hold the black one and if you put a seed in your mouth it ate it from you!! He was actually really gentle!! We then got to see 3 lizards and then hold them!! Two were really clam and just sat in your hand but the other was a proper wriggler and had a blue tongue!!
We then got to see the koalas!! Saw the baby one which was called Lola, and she was really cute but we actually got to hold a fully grown male called Barney!! He weighed about 8kg but was so cute!! Their fur isn't as soft as it looks but still pretty soft!! You had to stand really still when you hold them though as they just think you are a tree and if you start moving they will dig in with their claws!! Not good!! Got some brilliant pics though!!
Then we headed over to the snakes, obviously not my favourite!! We got to hold a python which was about a metre in length and wriggly as anything!! I did put it round my neck but hated it the whole time!! They are such creepy animals :s Anyway, we then headed over to the crocodiles!! They have 3 big ones (2/3 metres) but we only saw their heads a couple of times but they have 4 baby ones, 2 salt water and 2 fresh water! We got to hold Barbie who was a sea water one!! They are the more aggressive ones but she had her jaw taped shut so we were all safe!! She weighed about 5kg and you have to hold it at the base of the tail and around the neck!! Luckily she was quite content to just be held and didn't play up!!
After the fun of the morning, I went to try and go snorkelling with the 2 girls from Denmark! Maggie Island has plenty of shipwrecks so we planned to go to Arthur Bay which was quite close to us!! We got the bus to the top of the hill which was the nearest drop off point and headed down! Unfortunately, the path was blocked from fallen trees in Yasi, but we didn't know this! So to start with, we went way to far! Well it was prob only about half a mile but it was up and down a hill!! So after heading back, we found the track that wasn't and attempted to follow the creek nearby but that wasn't happening either!! So we gave up as we were doing all this in the middle of the day and heat of about 35 degrees!!
After a well deserved dip in the pool, we went down to a nearby bay to feed the rock wallabies!! They were about up to my knee in height and there were loads of them!! They were so cute and we even saw a couple of mothers with their joeys in their pouches!! They were really friendly and ate food right out of your hand!! They were scared to try and climb up on your knee to get more either!!
In the evening, 4 of us from the room did the quiz in the bar!! We came 4th out of 8 but I'm sorry to say Dad, we fell for the "how many of each animal did Moses take on the arc?' question!! Did kick myself!!
Now in Airlie Beach, nice easy bus journey down today! But not got much time on the internet left so will write about that tomorrow!! Pictures will also go up on fb tomorrow!!
Lots of koala love
