Hey guys!!
So had a quiet few days here! Friday, Saturday and Sunday were spent chilling out by the lagoon and wandering around Cairns working off a couple of hangovers!! Moved to a different hostel for a couple of extra nights, which was really nice! Nice and clean although pretty basic, had a rooftop pool though and had cheap meals at a nearby restaurant!! Got a lush steak for just $5 including a glass of wine so can't complain!!
Started to head south this morning- with a lovely 6.15am start!! Luckily the meeting point was right outside my hostel! Got on the Oz Experience bus with 19 other people!! Pretty nice bus and not too busy so got 2 seats to myself!! Met some really nice people on the bus, all heading south!! So we drove for about an hour and had a qick stop, then did a 3hr stint as we went through the main path of Yasi!! Saw even more destruction that I did when I went rafting which was pretty bad!! Stopped off at the big boot which is in Tully!! Basically they have an actually boot which is awarded to the town which has the most rainfall each year but the most ever recorded was in Tully in the 1950's with 7.9m of rainfall!! Almost makes England sound like a summer location!!
I got off the bus at Townsville, but most people were heading straight down to Airlie Beach so might catch up with some of them there!! One other girl that got off at Townsville was actually on my snorkelling trip!! Got a quick ferry straight over to Maggie Island (actually Magnetic Island but everyone here calls it Maggie)! I'm staying at a really nice place called Bungalow Bay!! It's right next to the koala sanctuary!! Each of the rooms is a little hut (pics to come soon) which is really cute!! Only about 4min walk from the beach so had a wander down there but its pretty messed up from Yasi still!! Not much happening and you couldn't swim today as the flags were up!!
Had a little sunbathe by the pool and just next to the pool, they were feeding lorikeets (the birds in the photo) so i went and fed them as well!! The keeper put some food in my hand and loads of them just swooped down on my arm!! They have really sharp claws though so they scratched my arms to bits!! So pretty though!!
Just had dinner with everyone from the dorm, got 2 girls from Denmark, one from Canada and an older girl from England who's just got a few weeks off from work!! All really nice though so had a nice dinner!! Also saw a possum while we were eating and a random bird!! Also saw a butterfly commit suicide by flying straight into the light!! Not the best option!!
Anyways best go but will update you all either tomorrow night or the day after as I'm heading to Airlie Beach on Wednesday!!
Lots of Maggie love
