Hey again!!
Spent the last three days in Surfers Paradise! I had heard mixed reviews about it before so only booked 2 nights but loved the place and hostel so stayed an extra night and wish I could have stayed longer!!
I arrived on Thursday, which was Paddys Day!! Got to the hostel about 4pm-ish and popped to the shops for some drinks!! The hostel was pretty small so got to meet everyone pretty quickly!! About half the people work at the hostel and most are staying long term!! I was in a 2 bed dorm with a girl called Amy who was a good laugh!! Best part was we had a bunk but the bottom bunk was a double bed and that was mine :) woohoo!! More luxury than at home (only joking parents!!!)
We had some drinks at the hostel and then headed over to Surfers to an Irish bar (the hostel was about 10mins outside of Surfers)! The bar was packed and had live music so it made a really good atmostphere!! Ended up all heading back to the hostel about the same time ( after a kebab obviously!!) and carried on drinking and chatting til the early hours!!
The next day, me and Amy headed down to the beach at Surfers!! Unfortunately it was a bit overcast but it would be rude not to hit the beach at least once!! We went in the sea and the waves were crazily strong!! I definitely wouldn't want to learn to surf there!! I got knocked over just standing up!! Headed back to the hostel in anticipation of a pool party as the pool was due to be finished during the day and ready to be opened!! But, it wasn't ready so instead we decided to go out in Southport which is the town where the hostel is! We went out a big later than we originally planned as we got carried away chatting outside but eventually headed down to the local bar!! Not quite the same atmostphere as the previous night as there was just 3 other people in the bar!! Still had a good time though and the barmen were really cool sorting out music requests for us!!
The next morning I woke up to rain and rain and more rain!! It literally didn't stop all day!! Spent the day chilling at the hostel and popped to the local shopping mall for a bit as well!! Also discovered the cheapest wine I have ever seen- $2 bottles!! Not the nicest to drink but after a couple of glasses you don't really notice!! In the evening, we headed out on the Big Backpacker Night Out!! Basically 7 hostels come together and do a big bar crawl around Surfers!! As we were a pretty small hostel we all managed to stay together and had a really good night!! We went to 4 different bars, one with live music, and they were all pretty cool!! A few of us then headed home in time to watch the England V Ireland rugby match!! Unfortunately it took us ages to find a site that would let us watch it!! So in the mean time we had the bbc sport website refreshing to get the updated score!! We eventually found a site at the start of the second half and to be honest I would rather have not found one- especially as one of the girls was Irish!! All in all a wicked evening though!!
Left the hostel today and was really gutted to leave!! Definitely in the top 3 hostels that I've been to!! Just arrived in Byron Bay which I have heard nothing but good things about so got 6 nights here!! Looking forward to a good sleep though tonight!!
Sending lots of paradise love
