Wednesday night
Our washing was starting to pile up so we decided that we would visit the laundromat just around the corner, even though neither of us had used one before but how hard can it be, well we didn't count on the instructions being in French, totally lost, clothes in the washer but how do you get soap and how do you turn the machine on? thankfully a man was doing his washing and after watching us for a while he must have realized that these two blondes didn't have a clue in the world and showed us what to do, too easy, so we sat down in the laundromat for the next hour watching our clothes go round and round in the washer and eventually in the dryer.
Thursday
Today was to be a quiet day and top of the list was to visit the Notre-Dame Cathedral, each time we had been passed it the line up was quite long so therefore we were not sure how long it would take to actually get inside, we arrived around 9.30 and surprisingly although there was a big crowd outside we were able to walk right in,
Now I'm not to sure of this Cathedral, while this is big, and I appreciate the history surrounding it, I found it a very dark church, the stained glass windows are beautiful but don't really let in much light, the walls and the pillars seem to be a very dark in colour and the alcoves, sculptures, paintings do not have any modern lighting to really enhance them, very hard to get good photo's as you requested to have the flash turned off your camera or phone.
leaving the church we found a corner cafe near the river Seine and had my favourite, coffee and croissant, and just sat and watched the people passing by.
Catching a taxi we headed for an area called Haussmann Saint-Lazare which is around the opera, theatre area of Paris, and just wandered around window shopping and sight seeing, finally having lunch at a well know cafe called Cafe de la Paix,
Finally making our way back to the hotel to shower and change as we had a dinner reservation at the Eiffel Tower and we had to be there at 6.00 to be able to catch the lift up to the restaurant, upon arriving at the restaurant you are escorted to your table and a glass of champagne arrives, our menu was a set menu with a choice of 4 entree's 4 main and 4 desserts, Chrissy chose a lobster dish and I a salmon for entree, we both had lamb for the main and for desserts a meringue with berries and one that was called floating island, all dishes were perfect and couldn't be faulted, and with the setting sun and Paris starting to turn on the street lights a whole new view was to be seen.
From 8pm onwards, the tower lights up with a light display for around five minutes every hour so leaving the restaurant we proceeded to go down to the lawn area with the crowd that had gathered and watched the display, magical, I am so glad we have seen the Tower at night, it truly takes on a whole new dimension, one not to be missed.
