Hello Biff fans!
So Sao Paulo.....
Woke up this morning, nicely refreshed from our blissful sleep in our own suite! Checked out and got the metro to Liberdade, Japan Town. They were having a market, selling lots of little craft things, and lots of food. We thought it a little early for fried prawns on a stick and settled for these little pancake cake things, stuffed with what we think was some sort of acai berry jam - v good!
We then walked up to the cathedral, which was quite impressive, especially from the inside, we didnt stay long as a service was starting and instead walked up to the monastry where we caught the end of a service!
To be honest, there wasn´t an awful lot to see, so wandered around for a bit, stopped at a park for a little bit then decided to walk back up to Japan town for something to eat.
We went to a little Japenese restaurant, was crazy! you queued up, ordered then went upstairs where you had to fight for a seat! They then bring the food up to you, shouting out your name (amazing pronunciation of Beth!) The food was very good, in particular the tempura and the dumplings.
Stuffed to the brim we then walked (its been hot again today) to Republica Square where there was a little market, wandered around looking at the art and jewelry and bought some cake.
We then headed over to the nearby Italia tower to get some views of the city. Unfortunately, as it is Sunday, we didn´t get all the way to the top. After this, we were so tired we just walked back to the hotel to crash in the lobby until we have to go to get our late night bus to Curitiba.
Glad we came to SP (if only for a hotel!) but glad we didn´t stay longer, there isnt that much to see and it is very dirty and there are a great many homeless people here. Its very sad because of the sheer number and the age of some them. The whole city is very dirty and does not feel safe. An experience nonetheless!
Hope you are all well!
