Hey Biff fans!
B here!
So we are in Paranagua! Didn´t get up to much last night, except loading up all the photos etc for you lovely people! we even have video now, moving up in the world!
Very cold last night, snuggled up under our honey monster blankets and multiple layers! Woke up, chatted to the people in our hostel and had another lovely breakfast (yes more cake) and took some with us for lunch (ala Michaela in Prague!). We then walked (yes walked) with our rucksacks to the bus station, and bought a bus ticket. (For the right day this time!).We both wanted to catch the famous jungle train, but sadly this only runs to Paranagua on Sundays! Bought postcards and waited for the bus.
Anyway, we still saw a little of the jungle and the journey (just under two hours) was very pleasant.Ate our little packed lunches and listened to Spandau Ballet on the i-pod. Very hip.
Arrived in Paranagua and walked (yes again - burning off the cake) to our hostel. Little drama when we got there as the guy behind the desk (no English) could not find our reservation, although he seemed convinced when Tiff showed him her emails!Anyway, we have our own little private room, again its like heaven! unpacked and then headed for a wander round.
The historical centre is very small, easily explored on foot. And very quaint. All the buildings are different colours, although look a little run down, but seem a bit better for this? really charming! We saw a couple of churches and a theatre which was currently being used for music lessons. really was very pretty! Wandered back along the sea front. It was a little chilly, but no where near as cold as Curitba.
We stopped at a bar next to our hostel for a drink and as we were sitting chatting, a guy game up doing origami, gave me a heart and T a flower with a little bird! Very sweet!
It then began to rain :-( Nothing major before you all get all smug! We went back to the hostel and got ready to go out. We decided that we wanted to go out for a nice meal and a few drinks. This plan soon went down the drain when we realised that it was still raining and everywhere was shut! Walked around for quite a while looking for somewhere to eat!
Found one restaurant but was way too expensive, so had to settle for a sort of tent thing, under which there were several kiosks selling food. we ordered caipirinhas and what we could reasonably translate - chips and pasties again I´m afraid! The food was good and we still had a nice time laughing about the situation, raining and all dressed up and nowhere to go!
It was here that we met Miguel and another Brazilian guy (whose name I couldnt say let alone spell so I will call him Bob). We asked about any bars in the area but they said that they were all shut so we all bought some wine and drank it at Bobs out of the rain. On the way T (being T) managed to elegantly fall up the stairs, spilling all her wine! Was OK though, Bob did the same thing about two minutes later.
Being at Bob´s meant that we could use the internet for a Portuguese/English translator to aid the conversation. Miguel didn´t speak any English at all and Bob only badly - for example he asked us if we had brothers back home, we later realised that he meant boyfriends! (He also asked us if we were brothers, but we are assuming he meant sisters here, not brothers, or indeed lovers!)
We managed to work out from them that there is some sort of party on Ilha do Mel on Friday and that they are heading over there later in the week. We exchanged email addresses and then walked home in the rain!
Nice nights sleep (in our own room!) ready for the boat trip to Ilha do Mel the next day!
Hope you are all Ok, miss you, love you!
