Ben and Marie's American Road Trip
After staying in Santa Fe, we were heading South to join back onto Route 66. I got up first and went for a jog around camp, marie stayed in bed because she had done a circuit a few days ago and her legs were aching. So I let her off. After that, we both showered and got ready, the bathrooms were some of the best we'd seen at the KOA campsites to be fair. Then I made use of the complimentary coffee on camp and we set off. First on the agenda was getting petrol, we were pretty short. Once we had done that, we drove through old Santa Fe on historic 66 and it was really cool. The buildings and streets were tight-knit, and all of the buildings were Mexican themed in the sense that they looked like clay houses. Once we had navigated the thin streets where Route 66 finishes, we headed south through the arid wasteland down to Albuquerque. We stopped at and old Route 66 service station to get a subway for lunch. It was only a short drive to Albuquerque, so that was nice, a short drive by our standards anyway. We arrived in Albuquerque and checked 2 different KOAs and both were booked up with regards to their tent sites, so we found a cheap motel with free breakfast and booked that instead. But before we were going back there, we were going to be taking a sky tram up into the rockies. Sandia Peak, which was over 10,000 feet up, on an 18 minute tram ride. We got our tickets and boarded the tram, it went surprisingly fast, and before we knew it, we were at the top. The views going up and at the top were unbelievable, so much to see. We took a little walk at the top to see where the ski slope was for winter and had a little walk into the forest there too. We headed back to the tram base after that and read up on some of the history of the place. We stayed for another half an hour and then got the tram back down. We headed to our hotel after that and decided we would have some Mexican for dinner, after all, we were in New Mexico. We went to Twistys and I had a chicken burrito and Marie had a chilli, chicken and rice spice bowl thing. We both thoroughly enjoyed it, except I ordered extra chips when mine was served with chips, needless to say, not all the chips were eaten. Even with Marie's help. After that we went back to our hotel room and it was ok to be honest, nice bed and fresh towels, can't complain. We watched a movie and then went to sleep, I was already excited for the free breakfast.
