The bus had 3 rows of bunkbeds on it so you can lie down and it is easier to sleep. They are so cramped though and not very comfy! We were on the bus for 14 hours and it only stopped once, halfway through where we could get some local food which was noodle soup. The rest of the time we tried to sleep but the driver was a bit of a maniac and would brake suddenly all the time which made it hard.
We arrived safely and checked into our new hostel, which was run by the same company as the one in Hanoi. The rooms were really good again… and this hostel has a beaut balcony/terrace outside the dorms. The weather is also better the more south you go so it is a lot hotter here which is good.
We spent the day walking around the new city, chilling and planning what to do whilst we are here… then in the evening we played pool and watched the football.
Our first full day in Hue we hired mopeds for the day which cost 100,000 Dong ( £3 ) including helmets. This is the best way to explore the city!
First of all we went to a Royal Palace and Museum. The grounds of the Palace are huge and included temples, gardens, houses, pavilions, large ponds, theatres etc! We then went to an aeroplane museum but it was shut, however we still got to see some planes which were outside.
We had been recommended to go and see some rice paddy fields and whilst looking for it a Vietnamese lady told us to follow her. She took us along a river, up through a forest in the mountain and kept going and going! Along the way we saw a lot more of how the people live here, rather than just being in the city. We saw a lot of houses which are more like shacks, and some other really nice houses too. There are a lot of dogs roaming about and random shops here and there selling food or even mobile phone stuff… which was really weird because it is in the middle of nowhere.
Afterwards we went back to near our hostel and decided to explore ourselves! We went out of the city again… but in a different direction. We found some rice paddy fields and rode along the tracks through the middle of them. Then we came across some dirt tracks and decided to go down there… which led to more villages. Every person we went passed waved or shouted hello…. Always with a massive smile on their face! The Vietnamese people are the nicest we have ever met, always friendly and willing to help you. At one point we came to a dead end and basically drove into someone's driveway….. we apologised but they were not annoyed at all and just seemed happy to see us. Another group of people were having dinner and asked us to stay and try it… but we had to get the bikes back!
Tonight we are going to have dinner then get an early night.... because tomorrow is going to be soooooo exciting!.....
