We arrived in Sihanoukville late afternoon so we went straight to the hostel we were recommended by a few people, Monkey Republic, we also wanted to stay here as we knew this is the place you could book Monkey Island which is a tiny resort on a remote island called Koh Rong. You can't prebook this hostel online so you have to hope for the best when you get there. We were lucky and got a 4 bed private bungalow with en suite, the last one in the hostel.
We wanted to book up Monkey Island quick as we knew it was in big demand, the next available date was the 6th so we booked that and stayed in the hostel for the three nights running up to then. Then one night on Koh Rong, and then Friday night on a bus to Siem Reap.
After checking in to our room and getting everything booked, Monkey Island, bus etc we thought we'd check out the beach. Its only a 200m walk from the hostel. We could tell straight away that this place was different to all the rest, there were English workers and promoters everywhere giving us flyers for bars and free drinks in the evenings, it was like being back in Kos/Zante/Ibiza. We knew we were going out that night so took a few of them to see what was going on.
Once we got to the beach we went straight in the sea (like we always do) it was amazing, none of us had ever felt sea water so warm, it was like a bath. We stayed in there for over two hours just playing with the volleyball and chatting to some lads from Oxford. When we realised our whole bodies were wrinkling we thought we would get out and head back to the room to get ready and get some food and go out. We ate in our hostel bar, great food and the biggest portions we've seen since we started. And still cheap as chips.
We had a beaut night that night, there are loads of bars down the sea front and everyone sort of moves along with each other. In the first bar Lloyd had a really weird small world moment. He was speaking to a girl from Brentwood, he told her he was from Colchester, then she said 'Oh I've been travelling in Vietnam with someone who is 23 from Colchester, do you know Alex Gladly?' Then the most typical Essex saying came out of Lloyds mouth 'SHUT UUUP.' We all know Alex Gladderz from home and we didn't even know he was travelling, let alone in the same country we were a few days before. We facebooked him the next day but he is now on his way to Australia so, we can potentially meet him out there later in the year.

Big bro Paul Yeah the killing fields was a bit morbid but they are the kind if things you need to experience, not all about the beaches birds and beers boys, get some culture in too!
