We woke up at 9 as we had to be at the pier for half 10 to catch the 40 minute speed ferry to Koh Rong. Lloyd woke up feeling really rough and had to run straight to the toilet to throw up, not a good start to the day. We went for breakfast but he could only get one slice of beans on toast down then on the way to the pier that came up as well. It was safe to say Lloyd was not looking forward to getting on a speed boat. The boat carry about 40 people and it goes like stink. The regular boat takes 2 and a half hours. We got pretty much all the way there then all of a sudden Lloyd was hanging over the edge throwing up again. Not good!
Once on the island we were given an introduction to the island. It tells you all the things you can do, jungle treks, kayaking, yoga, all sorts. We then checked into our Monkey Island beach hut. It was a beautiful hand made hut with 3 double beds all with mosquito nets and en suite. Right on the beach. Lloyd just got straight into bed and stayed there all day, well there and in the toilet. Ben and Tim left him to it and went exploring and had some lunch and chilled on the beach and in the sea. Later on Lloyd was feeling a bit better so walked down the beach to try and find the others. After walking up and down a bit he found them just starting dinner, Lloyd still didn't eat anything though as he still wasn't feeling the best.
After dinner we all walked back to the hut and just chilled on the deck in the hammocks and lounger chair, was really nice just chatting, laughing, reading, listening to the sea and just watching people and animals go past. Just as we were going to bed it was Bens turn to take a turn form the worst. He ran to the toilet to be sick, he was complaining he felt really bloated so didn't think anything of it at the start. But after we all went to bed, Ben was up every 20 mins being sick.
The next day we had planned to do the 50 minute jungle trek to Long Beach which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Ben started walking with us to breakfast but was still feeling really rough, and couldn't eat any breakfast. After everyone started wishing us good luck on the trek we started thinking we may have underestimated it a bit and ben made the decision to stay on the main beach all day. Lloyd and Tim later figured that would have been the best idea for him.
So off Tim and Lloyd went on the trek, basically it's a steep climb, then a small Plato at the top and an even steeper climb down the other side. At some points there are even ropes you have to use to abseil down the rocks. There are also signs saying 'Watch for snakes'. We were so hot and sweaty even after five minutes and all we could think was I can't wait to get into that sea. When we finally got there it made it all worth it, we just looked at each other and smiled, like 'WOW'. The beach is 8 miles long and there was about 10 people there when we first got there. The water was so clear the camera couldn't even pick it up until it got a bit deeper and bluer. We went straight into the sea to cool down and have a swim. It's so shallow for so far you can go out for miles. We played with the ball for a bit and had a sunbathe but we didn't want to leave Ben too long on his own so left after a couple of hours.
So after trekking back over the island, which seemed a lot easier on the way back as the steeper climb was first this time, we set on finding Ben. We walked down the whole beach and just found him walking out of the place we had breakfast, where he had been siting for the past few hours just staring at the sea. He wasn't feeling any better and in an hours' time we had to get the speedboat back to Sihanoukville, so this time it was Ben who was not looking forward to it. He just about made it back without leaning over the side, which he was happy about.
After getting off the boat, we picked up Bens iPod that he left at a gadget shop to get more songs put on. Then went back to our hostel to wait for an hour and a half and get some dinner before our 10 hour bus to Siem Reap. We have just arrived here after the bus taking 14 hours, there is a few things to do here so we will let you know how they go soon …….
