Hello everyone. We've been in Krabi and Railey for 6 nights and just thought we'd update you on what we've been up to
After Bangkok we got the overnight train to Krabi which is a town to the South of Bangkok. We had to sleep in bunks on the train as it was a 12 hour journey. There was someone snoringnear where we were sleeping so neither of us got much sleep! We eventually got to Krabi and our hotel was much nicer than the one we had in Bangkok, it actually had clean sheets. That night we tried our first Thai Green curry which the guy made mild for us but it was still well hot.
The next day we went on a boat trip which took us round four different islands. We did some snorkelling, sunbathing and saw some stunning beaches. While we were in Krabi we also did a tour of Ao Phang Nga National Park. The tour started off on a longtail boat which is a long wooden boat its also a local form of transport. We got absolutely soaked on the boat but passed some stunning scenery. This area of Thailand is famous for its dramatic lime stone cliffs and mangroves. The boat went through a sea cave and we saw some cave paintings. After the sea cave the boat took us to James Bond Island where the film "The Man With The Golden Gun Was Filmed". We also visited a gypsy village which was all on stilts over the water and had lunch there in one of the restaurants. Then we went to a cave temple with lots of monkeys outside! and walked through some jungle where we saw loads of nice waterfalls.
From Krabi we moved on to Railey beach. This was a real travellers place with loads of chillout bars on the beach where you lay on mats and cushions on a bamboo raft, and loads of people (travellers and locals) with Bob Marley dreds! The beach here was beautiful and not too crowded. The first night we stayed in a really horrible hotel which was filthy so we checked into a nicer one for the other 2 nights. Our room was up some steps in a kind of tree house surrounded by loads of greenery, it felt like we were staying in the jungle! We basically chilled out on the beach in the day and had lots of cheap food and drink in the chillout bars in the evening. We even had a bucket of Thai whiskey one night!
Today we arrived on Ko Phi Phi where the film "The Beach" was filmed. It's really different from Railey here, although the beaches are beautiful, it's so touristy and there are so many people here - hey we are really starting to sound like proper travellers now! We're probably going to do some snorkelling and sea kayaking trips from here, so we'll update you again soon.
