Hi everyone, hope you are all well back home. We've been in Hong Kong for 3 nights now and are moving on to Bangkok today so thought we'd update you on what we've been up to so far.
Friday 19th Jan - Arrived in the evening in Hong Kong after the 12 hour flight. Our room was upgraded as they were fully booked so had a lovely room with mini bar, fresh fruit, big bed and views of the Hong Kong skyline - how lucky! We walked around Kowloon harbour (the area of Hong Kong we are staying in) in the evening and saw a light show which all the major buildings in Hong Kong take part in, was a bit cheesey but fun! Our hotel is surrounded by Gucci, Prada, Armani, Louis Vuitton - wish I had some money to spend!!
Saturday 20th Jan - Today we got the Star Ferry to Hong Kong Island. The sky scrapers are so huge and the city is so big, it makes you feel really small down on the ground! We got the tram to the Peak which is one of the main attractions in Hong Kong. I was really scared as it is so steep and goes so high and I'm scared of heights! When we got to the top we had to go up even more escalators to get to the viewing platform. I made Ben take some pictures at the edge but it was so cloudy we couldn't see anything which we were really gutted about. After that we had a walk around Hong Kong Park, visited a chinese temple where the air was so thick with incense it made our eyes water! and walked along Hollywood Road which is famous for it's antique shops. Then we went to Causeway Bay which is a huge shopping area and walked down an alley with a market in it, which Ben loved as you can imagine! We caught the ferry back to Kowloon in the evening, all the sky scrapers were lit up, they looked lovely. We did so much walking that we nearly collapsed on the way back to the hotel!!
Sunday 21st Jan - Today we went to the Hong Kong History museum which told the history of Hong Kong. Then we visited the Jade market, flower market (which was mad, so many people in one street!) and the bird garden where they sell exotic birds. It was a bit cruel because the birds are all squashed into tiny cages. A lot of the old chinese men go to let their song birds fly around. So we didn't stay there long incase we got pooed on!
The biggest problem we've had is finding somewhere to eat which has a menu in English and looks ok! One of the restaurants we went in had an interesting menu - fish bladder, pigs intestine, sharks fin soup, ducks tongues, frogs, blubber or tripe anyone?!! We've had some lovely dim sum though which Hong Kong is famous for.
I guess that's enough of boring you for now so we'll update you again from Bangkok. Miss you all loads, make sure you email and keep us updated with the goss from back home!
