A surprisingly ok sleep sees us waking up on our random ferry, for a not so brilliant breakfast. Possibly the worst so far? You know it's sad when you're scraping off apricot jam to make your promised ham and cheese croissant. We play cards and wait about to disembark, which drags on for most of the morning. Around midday, we excitingly hear our disembark announcement and single file march off the transport ferry. Levi is a bit annoyed that after a bribe, the crew still scratched our coach, but apparently it could have been worse!! We then have a not so bad drive to Athens that takes about 4hrs. We pass by an awesome canal that has been in the process of construction since roman times! The land mass is very narrow being only 6km across, and divides the Mediterranean sea with the caspian. Essentially saving 3 days of travel, as you wouldn't have to sail around the bottom. The problem is that you have to cut 80meters into complete rock face, an engineering feat that is still being tinkered with. We continue on however and listen to a documentary off why Greece is in such a crisis. Very in lightening and absolutely outrages! Feeling like we both got our knowledge fixes for the day, we arrive in a great hotel in Athens. Still can't quite figure out the vibe of the city, but will e going back after our cruise so will decide then. We have a great view from our 18th floor room (only one down from the penthouse and all the others were on level 10 so not quite sure how we managed it) but it was great! Quickly getting ready like always, we head out to diner in a very cool area, that's just stair cases with restaurants on the side. Greek food is my favorite by far, and so far! A mixtures of greek salads, taziki and bread, meatballs, cheeses, and kebabs for mains. Fresh and yummy, it's great to be enjoying meals once again:) we get entertainment of traditional dancers in wonderful costumes, the men's pompom shoes were particularly brilliant. We catch the coach back to our hotel and enjoy some cocktails on the swanky roof top bar...it's amazon how much further your money can go in a slightly less expensive country. Feeling very spoilt, we have a grand old time before going to bed for the beginning of our cruise tomorrow!
