I got up to Franz Josef on TUesday night i think i am really confused with days of the week.
I decided to do a half day hike and booked on to the 12.30 trip. i signed in and collected the equipment all i needed was warm socks and crampons and i was ready for the ice. we got a bus to the carpark and from there it was a hours walk to the ice once at the face we put on the crampons and were devided into 4 groups as there were over 50 of us! we then headed on to the ice, there were steps most of the way to climb with ropes to hold onto, the ice was grey at the start from land slides etc and the rocks and dust had got onto the ice apparently the ice can be 4 colours white, blue, grey and orange the orange coming from sand storms in Australia!!!!!
we spent 2 hours on the ice walking around and seeing the fascinating formations, we couldn't walk to the top as this would of taken over 10 hours. We then climbed ack down again tok off the crampons and returned to the bus.
I think i prefered the fox glacier simply becasue there didn't see mto be as many people but i did do the helihike there so not so many people would have been there anyway!
I got back to the hostel and watched tv, then we decided to watch a film as it was a group of girls watching the TV, it was a good nite.
