Today was a very long day, but worth every second! We took a day excursion to Saona Island, and Island off the South East coast of Domincan Republic. We took a bus to our boat, and started the venture to Saona Island. Apparently, some scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed here, so that was pretty cool.
We boarded a catamaran and first got to do some snorkeling. We saw tons of fish and coral, and even Blue Tang Fish! Those are kind of fish Dory is from Finding Nemo and Finding Dory, so that was exciting for me. ;)
We then took a slow ride to a natural pool, or sand bar, where the water is super shallow, and the water is clear as can be. We got to walk around and take photos, and enjoy the beautiful weather and crystal clear Carribbean Sea.
Our resort is on the top of Dominican Republic, so still on the Atlantic Ocean, so cool to get to experience the Caribbean Sea as well.
We then went to Saona Island, and the ride to this Island had some of the most breathtaking views we have ever seen! Crystal clear waters, gorgeous beach line with palm trees, bright sunny skies, we could not have asked for a better day.
Yesterday was cloudy, and the sun peaked through for maybe an hour or so, whereas today was partly cloudy, but the sun was out most of the day. It rained for about 10 minutes while we were on Saona, but cleared up pretty quickly, then really poured on the bus ride home. But we were incredibly lucky to have blue skies and sun during 95% of our excursion today. And, again, being here during hurricane season, we really could not be more thankful for the gorgeous weather today.
Once we got to our spot on the beach of Saona, we were greeted with a cocktail, and got to eat lunch. It was a ridiculous BBQ buffet with fish, lobster, chicken, and pork chops. Which, of course was more exciting for Jaime than me. He enjoyed the meat very much. I stuck to the pasta salad and potatoes. ;) But that would have been a darn pricey meal anywhere else, but was included in our excursion. Along with beer, and all the Cuba Libres one could ever need.
After lunch, we roamed around the beach (which was private just for us) and in the waters. We got some cool photos, and headed on a speed boat back to our bus.
Once we got back the resort, we had enough time to change and get ready for dinner. We made reservations at a Brazillian Restaurant, here on the resort and wow, was it fancy. It was one of those ones where the people come around with the meats, and put it on your plate for you. Which, again, was all Jaime, but he had never been to a restaurant like this before, so I was super glad he got to experience it. PLUS, there was an amazing salad and dessert bar for me, so I had plenty to eat. And, we stopped by the buffet after and got some extra snacks, so no shortage of food for either of us. ;)
Today was pretty exhausting, so we called it a night pretty early. Being in the sun really takes it out of you! Yes, I know, what a hard life we have right now. ;)
Tomorrow we are pretty excited to take advantage of the breakfast buffet again. I don't know what it is about breakfast food, but breakfast buffets are just the best. After that, we got a whole lot of nothin' planned. Just hanging at the swim up bar, and relaxing pool and beach side. We are only here until Tuesday, so I may not update until we get home.
Hope you are enjoying our journey so far! The Domincan Republic is so beautiful and exotic we have been having a blast on this short but sweet trip.
