We arrived on Koh Samui island on the 4th July after a really really long journey! We had a 9 hour wait at Hualaphong station at Bangkok, followed by a 13hour train to Surat Thani. If that wasn't enough, we then had a half hour coach journey to the port and 2 and a half hours on a ferry to the island! So you can imagine we were very pleased to get here! We're staying in Samui Reef View Resort, which is absolutley amazing and there is so much to do on the island so we're now staying for 2 weeks rather than our intended 1 week.
The first few days were spent catching up on sleep ( we stayed awake for 37 hours during our jouney! ) and relaxing on the beach, we're 4km south of Lamai beach which is a really good beach, just what we needed after Bangkok!
After a few days we decided to do a bit of exploring. We rented a little moped so we could get around the island, it only takes two hours to drive round the whole place! It was sooo scary at first, the driving out here is not the best, btu Simon was really good at it and he absolutely loved it! We git to see lots of things, we went a saw 3 waterfalls first. The first one was just pathetic, it was just a dribble of water coming down some rocks, but apparently because it has a pool at the end it's classed as a waterfall! The second seemed impressive at first, much taller than the first at 80m btu still not as good as we thought. We climbed to the top and it got even worse, it was infact less of a dribble than the first one, made stronger than a few bright blue water pipes! Also, the "rocks" were infact made up of cement and the route the water took manufactured by badly hidden sand bags! By the time we drove to the thir, we werent expecting much, but this was one was actually a proper waterfall yay! It was 80m high but absolutely massive with a huge pool at the bottom to swim in and surrounded by rainforest. We even got to see some elephants on a trek!
After the waterfalls we went and saw the Mummified Monk. He's a dead monk that never decomposed fully so he now sits in a glass box in the middle of a temple. He's even dressed in monk clothes and has a little bit of hair left but the best bit is that he wears sunglasses because his eyes fell out! Nice.
We soent the rest of our day driving around stopping at little cove beaches and seeing all the usual things like the island's Big Buddha. And we also went to Tesco, Boots and the Thai version of B&Q!
Still lots more exploring to do as we didnt even make it to the west side of the island but we ran out of time after our marathon waterfall trek so will have to do it another day!
