We arrived in Vientiane (it was so stupidly hot- 37 degrees!!) and after finding somewhere to stay, and dumping our bags we went for lunch. We then had a wonder around and tried to sort some transport and accommodation for Thailand. After dinner (we found crispy noodles!!) went headed back for an early night. The next morning after breakfast we booked our bus to Chiang Mai and then went to see a temple. After that we headed back and in the afternoon got our bus to Chiang Mai. It took a whole to get over the border but we finally made it to Udonthani. A particular guy from the bus company was supposed to meet us to take us to the next bus station, and after being approached by a few people, we finally decided to trust one woman who said the guy was sick. We gave her the envelope an we got our tickets so it was all good. The bus to Chiang Mai was much nicer than I expected. It left late, but we did get some yummy food. They were playing a Thai film and although there were no subtitles I ended up watching the whole thing- and it was actually quite good (well as good a it can be without having a clue what theyre saying!). I also managed to get some decent sleep before arriving in Chiang Mai the next morning.
