So we arrived in Laos, and after getting our visas we headed to the hotel. The next day was the start of the lunar new year (paii mai). Which basically meant the streets were one massive water fight. We went for a wonder and it was pretty busy! The main street was lined with food stalls and gift stalls, we got completely soaked!! The water guns were nice and refreshing, the massive buckets of water over your head- not so much. Thank god for dry bags! :P we ended up in a nice bakery for breakfast (they had bagels!!) then we went back to the hotel to chill until the national museum opened. Me, Emily and Emily went to see it, but when we got there it was closed because of the new year! >:( so instead we had a wonder, got even more soaked and had a look around a couple of temples. We had some amazing crepes for lunch and then in the evening went to a place where you have to climb a stupid number of steps (entrance ticket includes a free heart attack! :P ) and you get a really good view over the city, and of the sunset- it was pretty lush! Then we had some dinner (good old' pad Thai) and had a wonder around the night market. The next day Si still wasn't feeling great so me, Emily and Emily went to the pak où caves in the morning. We had to get a two hour boat on the Mekong- the boat was insanely tiny but it was quite a nice drive. We stopped at a village on the way, supposedly to see people making Laos whiskey, but sadly it was basically just everyone selling stuff. There were two caves, one up another stupid amount of stairs, and they were full of buddhas donated by locals. The boat back only tool an hour. After grabbing a quick snack and getting soaked (and covered in a bit of flour- and ending up looking like a half baked pizza!!) on the way back to the travel agent, we went to the waterfalls. The waterfalls were really good, there was a bear sanctuary- so amazing to see them, but horrible what ha happened to them :( then we got to do a bit of swimming at a bit of the waterfalls before walking up to see the main bit of the waterfall which was pretty good! The next day we got a bus to Vang Vieng. We'd heard so many horror stories about the journey, but it wasn't too bad at all. The road was continuously windy, but had amazing scenery!!
