Beki and Steves travels
day 1
we met our group at 4.30 and it seemed pretty kule. we were with claire who we had met in 1770 and a good mixture of people who seemed laidback and up for a laugh rather than just a big piss-up which we were worried about. we watched videos about fraser and how to avoid crashing and saw lots of photos of upturned cars. eek we all had a yummy meal and then went to bed. sum silly girl had moved bekis stuff so she dnt have a bottom bunk anymore! how rude ( the same girl took ages in the shower, was really bossy to everyone but luckily not in our group and at the end of the trip got put in the same room as us beki claimed the bottom bunk and she had 2 sleep on top heheh poetic justice)
day2
up early for free pancakes yumyum. and then a 2.5hour briefing with a crazy guy called shane " hey my name is shane whats my name.... my name is shane".......hummm
after what seemed like ages and a breifing about a briefing we got on the way and boarded our ferry. it only took a few mins b4 we actually got there and started our adventure.
we went down a really bumpy track for a few km b4 turning off and it was plain beach sailing. we arrived at Eurong stocked up on ice and had a toilet stop then powered on to lake Mackenzie where we all had a dip and a swim b4 the obligatory beki n steve rainshower came in.
we all hurred off feeling full from a yummy lunch (we seem to get fed beta on camping trips than we can feed ourselves) then we powered on to central station where we went on a quick rainforest walk b4 heading off 2 camp for the night at one tree rocks ( note there was more than one tree and only a few rocks)
we set up our tents like pros and managed to get all our food cooking b4 any of the other groups had even pulled in! had a quite night and early bed as we were so tired. me n steve got a tent 2 ourselves and no one wanted to share with a couple out of princple lol. fair dinkum.
had a few intresting moments with the other group (boring group) who were hammered. one girl kept shouting SMACK THE GOON IDIOT( say it in a german accent) hum... please note goon is cheap wine in a bag
we also atracted alot of dingos with the food ( we had steak) so got to see alot. they were even walking around the tents just before we went to bed! luckily we didnt have any problems with them as our food was all stored away at night. they were really cool to see though!
day 3
we got up at around 7ish and started the day with scrambled egg sandwhich yumyum and then headed off to Elli creak which was a pretty fresh water creak which you could have a wash in lovely. we splashed around thre for a bit and then headed up to the northen part of the island passing the marino shipwreck on the way. we stopped off and took some good photos. it was built in ww1 and was on its way to Japan when it got blown onto Fraser in a cyclone. saw the fraser island pinnacles and then made our way up to Indian head with claire driving where we had a 40min walk to the champagne pools. called this as the water breaks over them and the water bubbles and fizzles like... u guessed it... champagne. as per usual just as we got thre the bright sunshine dissapeared and a rainshower came down... though by the time we started walking back it had cleared up.
we then had a race against the tide to camp near the shipwreck. we pulled in set up camp and started a lastnight party. we sung songs accompanied by a guitar and made trips to the shipwreck in the dark.
the sand was filled with phosphorous which at night shines green so we had stars in the sky and stars on the floor!! amazing. we then spooked ourselves out with ghost stories and pictures filled with orbs (spirits). we played games trying to reach it without getting our feet wet, lots of fun in the dark when the tide was in!!
on the way back we scared ourselves silly as clarie and steve swore they culd hear someone. it turns out they were right and a random person appeared and sent us all screaming ( just another camper..who needs most haunted when you have your own spooky shipwreck)
w went to bed at a decent time ready for our early sunrise over the shipwreck.
some guys got so drunk they fell on our tent and hurt bekis leg ( big bruise) boohoo
day 4
we woke up early and set out for the sunrise which was spectacular as it reflected off the sea and the ship.
we came back and after brekie, sunbathing and waiting till 9 for the tide to receed enough to drive we st off to lake Wabby.
it was a 40min walk over spectacular sanddunes/drift and then a steep decent to the lake which after giving our legs a good workout we decided to swim across. lovely green freshwater lake.
after alot of sunbathing we had lunch. saw more dingos and then headed back to the ferry. on the way back we saw a eagle which swooped down in front of our car. a magestic way of ending the trip.
we had a group meal and swapped emails so that we could xchange our photos. as we had had our camera nicked and andrea had a film ruined. so hopefully we will have some photos to show you!. ps claire is ltting us burn her memery card so there will be photos, hopefully to put on here at some point!
