After a long hot day of travel from Naples - 2 buses, 4 trains, 1 plane and a cab - we finally arrived in Athens at about midnight and it was still 29 degrees. They had the easiest customs ever... ie it didn't exist, you basically picked up your bags and walked straight out, only down side is no stamp on the passport... so many countries don't stamp passports anymore LThe next morning we headed for the major sights. It was a little more difficult to find our way around athens as it didn't really have direction signs but through a mixture of using the force and following all the other tourists we found our way around. The acropolis was at the top of a really high hill and with athens heat and humidity it was quite a climb but we eventually made it up there and it was definitely worth it. The Parthenon was stunning although it was covered in scaffolding and cranes but we had kind of got used to that since almost every site we had seen throughout europe always tended to be under construction. From the top of the Acropolis we had a great view over all of Athens and were amazed at its size. Many other ruins were littered throughout the city and although you really did have to use your imagination to try and work out what everything was, it was great to think of what it would have been like over 2000 years ago.
Athens was really a very nice city, lots of nice cafes, restaurants and shops, although it was really hot. We're now sitting at the port of Piraeus waiting for our ferry to take us out to Santorini.
