Arriving in Prague Sunday afternoon we were immediately thrown out of our comfort zone when the train we were on didn't stop at the main station but rather at an alternative station about 10min by metro from the centre. Having expected to jump off and walk to our accommodation we were now faced with trying to work out the Prague metro system and with no czech in our vocabulary except jizdenky (ticket) which Bec learnt on the train, and more than a fare share of dubious looking characters hanging around it felt a little daunting. But eventually we learnt that you bought your ticket from the tabacco shop (?) and found our way to the right train. Thankfully what we'd heard about czech's not speaking much english was false. We set about exploring the many beautiful streets and buildings with the other 2 million tourists that were visiting Prague at the same time. Unfortunately it was really crowded and meant that we couldn't get a very good appreciation of sites like the Charles Bridge because we were all cramed in like sardines shuffling along. This city had the most amount of tourists on the streets we had ever seen, probably not helped by the fact that most of the sights to see were very close together. We eventually crossed the bridge and headed up to Prague Castle. 208 steps later (!) we reached the top and were rewarded with a great view over the city. I'm embarassed to say but by the time we reached Prague we were starting to get a little bit over all the buildings and sightseeing etc so we retreated from the throngs of other tourists and headed to the nearest Irish pub for a little taste of home. The night before we had gone to a Czech pub and tried local dishes such as Smoked pork knee with sauerkraut and potato pancake and also Chicken deep fried in cheese dough. But tonight we stuck to a more Aussie fare and had Beer and chips while watching fox sport on the irish pubs plasma. This helped to rejunvenate us.
We left Tuesday morning and were quite happy to move on. Maybe away from peak season it would be better or maybe you need to give it more time, either way we're off to Berlin.
