Wednesday we jumped on our first international train and headed to Munich. The 4 hour trip was surprisingly comfortable and relaxing in our first class compartment - sorry, probably the only time we'll ever get to travel first class ;)!We arrived at around 1.30pm and immediately set off to find our hotel. We soon realised that its location was right in the "red light" district, meters away from casinos, sex shops and strip clubs, but we felt safe enough - although we did have someone steal a mobile phone from a shop right in front of us, whilst we were at the counter.Exploring the city on foot we headed up to the main tourist centre Marienplatz. Compared to Zurich the crowds were much heavier here but still nothing to really interfere with our adventure. With no real plans wandered the streets admiring the many old buildings stopping regularly for food and beer! We found a great open air market filled with many delicious delicacies such as cheeses, fruits and many many sausages, and did we mention BEER!Ah Munich....The next day unfortunately it was raining so we did a bit of laundry at the local Laundromat and met a couple of Aussies, which was great to hear some English! We then went for another walk however Kane's sense of direction meant we ended up about a km out of the city and heading in completely the wrong direction. After a consultation with a map we got back on track and fortunately we ended up stumbling across some really lovely buildings along the way.
In the afternoon we went to the Haufbrauhaus beer hall to consume more of Munich's delicacies of pork, cabbage and beer. Half pissed and extremely full we wandered around to walk off our indulgence and lament the extra kilos we'll inevitably put on here in Munich.
