For our last day in Coverack, we decided to see if we could find this hidden sculpture park that our hostess had told us about several days ago. Both of us were pretty worn out from all the hiking we've been doing, not to mention the driving to get where we are going. It's a constant state of alert, and just wears you out! So staying local sounded good to us.
We drove to the main part of Coverack and managed to find a spot to park. We asked a local store owner for better directions on how to find the park, and she gave us fairly vague directions. We set off anyway in the cold and drizzle.
Along the way, we came across a young couple and asked them for directions--they provided us with much better ones, and between the info Rich found on his phone and theirs, we eventually found it. Believe me when I say that it wasn't easy.
The sculptures were all created by Terrance Coventry, who very recently passed away after a lengthy battle with leukemia. He was from the Cornwall area, and did farming for a while which inspired a lot of his sculptures.
They are in several meadows in the absolute middle of nowhere. You would not just stumble across them. Lots of them feature birds, and he mostly used steel. Now that he has passed away, I'm betting the sculptures will eventually have to be relocated to a building that can be guarded. He left a personal note that basically said he wished his works to be free to the public. However, with the vandals of the world, I'm sure it's just a matter of time before the works are behind lock and key.
We made our way back to the village and had lunch in the Paris Hotel...I had the Ploughman's Salad and Rich got the chicken curry. The Brits love Indian food and you can find curry almost anywhere!
We got back to the cottage and spent the afternoon watching it rain and catching up on our reading. I was so glad we didn't have anywhere to go since the weather was so awful!
