Our first morning in Coverack was spent driving to a famous sight called St. Michael's Mount. As we approached it, I told Rich it reminded me so much of Mont St. Michael in France. This one is still surrounded by water when the tide is in, and you have to take a ferry to get there. However, the tide was out when we arrived, so we were able to walk to it.
As it turns out, it was built by the same monks who built the one in France! And that explains why the names are so similar! :)
We joined The National Trust there, which is an organization that owns a LOT of properties here in England, and if we visit just 4 of them, the cost of joining will be a wash. There are a bunch of places we want to visit, so we think it will save us money in the long run.
We toured the Monastery, which had some great views. Grabbed a bite to eat in their cafe, and then left for another place that was nearby. Let me just mention that I had on long sleeves and a hoodie, it was that chilly!! Loved it!!
Next on our agenda was Godolphin House. The house itself is in disrepair, but the Trust has restored some of it and we looked around a bit. They have a trail you can hike, which leads up a hill with the most incredible views. You can see the English Channel and The Celtic Sea both from the top.
After climbing up to the top of St. Michael's Mount and Godolphin Hill, I was pooped!! Nice first day of touring in Cornwall.
