Retired & Traveling
Today's outing was to the Palacio Real de Madrid, which is to say, The Royal Palace. WOW!! What an amazing structure! I always thought Versailles was something (and it is), but this beats it hands down in my opinion. Every room is unique and spectacular--I wish we could've taken pictures, but they only allowed us photos at the very beginning. Probably just as well, I'd have filled up my phone. We got to visit about 30 different rooms--there are over 2,000 and it's over a million square feet!! My favorite room was the porcelain room, which had walls decorated entirely of porcelain figurines. For €3 each, we rented an audio visual device that enabled us to tour on our own, and see old and current photos that went along with the commentary. It was well worth the money. After the Palace. we went to the Mercado of San Miguel to get some lunch, but unfortunately, everyone seemed to have the same idea, and the place was packed. No where to sit after purchasing your food, and after standing on the tour for about 3 hours, that wasn't appealing. We found a nearby cafe and had a sandwich and drink--very pricey at €22!! But the ambience was good, so that's what we paid for I suppose.
