Retired & Traveling
After a quick breakfast, we met our tour guide outside the ship, and took off for a walking tour of Genoa (Genova as the Italians call it). This is another city built along the coast, although this one is the largest port city in all of Italy, which was a surprise to me. We walked quite a ways along the main freeway, which was very unimpressive. We finally came to the Aquarium, where she gave us a bathroom break. I was pretty frustrated at this point, wondering what we'd paid for. We crossed a major street and quickly became lost among all the tiny streets that Europe is so famous for. The highlights of the tour included getting to visit a very old cathedral, Christopher Columbus' house, and the original first bank building of Genoa. All of the buildings in old town were just beautiful, with the frescoes, and the Roman style of architecture. We were given an hour of free time, so we ventured down the street and found a nice place to have a coke and snack. They also had super fast wifi, so Pam and I could share pictures! I wish I would've thought to update my blog at that time, but forgot. A very nice coach bus picked us up in town for a ride back to the port--I was relieved to hear it, we had walked a long way from port at that point. Once back on the ship, we moseyed up to the feeding trough, aka the 16th floor buffet. :)) It was another PERFECT weather day, so we sat out on the balcony for a bit and then Rich and I decided to go to the pool area. This ship has private cabana type loungers, so we snagged one of those, dumped our belongings, and sat in the hot tub for a bit. It's a good way to meet fellow passengers and have a chat. There's also a nice bar in the pool area, so I had a beer and Rich got a soda. A very nice way to pass the afternoon. It was Italian night at dinner, so all the wait staff were dressed in their Gondola style shirts. I had 3 entrees!! My own that was a chicken dish, a small spaghetti w meatballs, and one that was a special pasta that Rich and I shared. Oh my...I was so full!! We went back to our room after dinner and watched TV.
