True to our plan, we went into San Antonio today. Instead of driving, we took a bus, which stopped right outside the KOA gate. Our driver was very cordial, as long as you didn't take too long putting your money in the machine, didn’t talk to him, and didn’t make eye contact. We hurried to our seats, feeling much better for the experience.
We got off the bus downtown and headed for the Alamo. It’s an interesting place and very sobering to think of the people who died there fighting for their freedom (spoiler alert: Davy Crocket died there).
After the Alamo, we had lunch at Casa Rio, a Mexican restaurant right on the river. Gooooooooood food. Unfortunately, I can’t eat again until Louisiana, which I hope will be tomorrow.
After lunch, we took a boat ride on the river, then walked along the River Walk to work off the enchiladas and tortilla chips.
The bus ride back to the KOA was uneventful, and the bus driver was just about as cordial as the other guy. This one, though, believed that the brake pedal should not be used until absolutely necessary, so we approached bus stops, red lights, and turns at 40 mph and got slammed against the windshield just before the collective scream from the passengers could escape our mouths. We made it in one piece, though, and I fell to my knees and kissed the ground upon leaving the bus.
The rest of the day was taken up with laundry and cleaning out the black-water tank.
Ah, relaxation.

[email protected] Your photos reminded me of many business trips in that area. I remember the great food down at the river walk. Didn't you think that the Alamo looked small? I thought so. The movie with John Wayne made it look big. It must have been very scary in that fight in such a small fort.
belinda I remember going there and thinking, "is this all? HUH." Unsure what I was expecting, but it wasn't that. :)
Shannon This time next week, we'll be riding the REAL Disney World rides!!! WOO!!
wjmccain Yes, it's very small. And the doorways are small, too. And the courtyard outside. Everything was smaller then.
