When I was young and something happened to make me sad or angry or upset, my mother would tell me, "Everything happens for a reason." I don't know where you stand on the issue, from divine intervention to “I CONTROL MY OWN DESTINY!” but I have found it to be true too many times to ignore.
And here it’s happened again.
While getting ready to leave Laramie this morning, I spoke with one of the employees there about the chill in the air. He said that it was nothing like last week: a major storm came through and dropped a lot of snow (we’ve been seeing remnants since Utah). The storm caused many accidents, and, he said, one occurred right near Laramie. Forty or more cars piled up, and several people were killed. This was just last week.
Many of you probably don’t know, but we were planning to leave on this trip on May 4th and expected to be in DC about now. Unfortunately, Barbara got sick, and our trip was delayed a week.
Had we left on the 4th, we would have been right in the middle of the snow storm. But we missed it. Because of a cold.
Sometimes, things happen for a reason. Makes you think, right?
As for our drive today? Uneventful. We got some wind and rain, but we’re safe and dry in Grand Island, Nebraska, because of a cold.
See you tomorrow.

Kristen Yes-- you DID. And it wasn't just snow and wind. You dodged a major tornado outbreak in that region a week ago this evening. :) Glad y'all are safe :)
Leigh Ann What's beyond the edge of the campground? It looks like the earth ends.
marge Yeah but you check the forecasts so you would be safe just very wet and even colder.
wjmccain Fields, then more fields, then more fields. Maybe a house somewhere...
laurel glad you are safe & sound at grand island--we stayed there once & bob thought it was very noisy there but it is a nice site. glad also that you missed that big storm. it was supposed to rain last nite but didn't & now they say later today--hope, hope, hope!
Wendy I like to think your mom intervened somehow and SO happy you are safe. Rain and thunder here today!!!!!!!!
Rich Sign me up for Divine Intervention. Personally, I have a Guardian Angel. His name is Michael. He occassionaly whispers to me, "don't do that," or "that would be a really dumb idea." If I listen, I don't send my money to Bernie Madoff and could have avoided the pile up on highway 55 while going to Boise and the hour delay it entailed. Or, I could have tuned on to my community radio station in Crouch, KXGV-LP and I would have heard the traffic warning. Michael failed to warn me about accepting the Math substitute teachning job at the Garden Valley High School for the month of May. Thankfully, only two weeks to go. Where were you Michael when I really needed advice?
