Get a semi-cama, or sleeper coach in to the city from bariloche....21 hours on board, and we have broken our old record from China of 18hrs. Although, with reclining seats, movies, food and leg rests this was not as much of an adventure as that ride. Watched Spiderwick Chronicles, Death Sentence, Gran Torino and other stuff. Food was passable, lots of coffeee but no champagne like i thought we might get....oh well.
Bus station in BA is massive, taxi it to a hostel. Stay at one very cheap hotel instead...a bit run down so change to another for the remaining time here - tv and private bathroom, which is clean for a few pesos more. Right near the National Congress building, very impressive.
So BA, what´s it like¿ Buzzy, to say the least. Didn´t make the most of the nightlife, apparently it starts at 2am. What Sharan and i did manage was to visit the major sites here and every now and again take some time to watch the world go by. Ba is cool....also the weather is warm, yay!
Check out the famous cemetary at Recoleta, say hi to Evita, do a walking tour of some notable sites, including a giant opening flower and some amazing architecture. BA has it all.....and then some. Stroll down Florida Avenue, browse the shops....so many people. See the phallic Obelisk, presidential palace (pink!), some riot police there on standby and veterans from the Falklands campaigning for compensation...steered clear of that one.
The next day, check out the historic Dorrego Square, with Tango shows on the streets before cutting a rug back in the city centre ourselves...Tango´d up a storm for 3 hours....learnt 3 basic mobes. Still, quite tiring. I danced briefly with the male instructor, that´s not weird. Ha ha.
Food here is great, La Continental ´fast food´place, with bow-tied waiters and beers, does a mean pizza and empanada. Got my Quilmes on, great beer.
Last day in BA....get to the bus station, buy a ticket to Montevideo, Uruguay...see lots of news about Dengue outbreaks in Palermo!!! Decide to avoid going there.....head to historic Boca instead...see the artists and wares on the streets, take in lunch and watch more amazing tango dancing in the street. Also there was a Diego Maradona looky likey charging for pics...avoided him. Back to via the city centre to use the free internet in the VIP bus lounge that vwe have access to. yes, i am VIP. Off to Montevideo, Uruguay on the bus overnight - Ciao for now.
PS I love Buenos Aires.
