Eden to Foster to spend a day in the Wilson's Promontory Conservation area.
Before leaving Eden we took a look around. First stop was the main beach which is beautiful and on the one side disappears into the distance and on the other stops in a vivid coloured cliffs. Next, round to the harbour which is a busy fishing harbour and they were still off loading fish as we watched. Also we had a good chat to the captain of a pair of tug boats that had just docked. He had been moving naval ships on the other side of the bay into the naval dockyard.
Moving from Eden we picked up the Princes Highway to our next stop at Cape Conran with great vistas along miles of golden sand. All the way there we were passing under a cloud of smoke with roadside warnings about the fires. We found it not too bad but it did obscure the distant views inland. What we did see though was a kangaroo hopping across the road in front of us.
On through Marlo and Orbost to Lakes Entrance and the start of Ninety Mile Beach, took a detour down to the beach and yet more golden soft sand. In Lakes Entrance we parked and crossed a pedestrian bridgeover an inner lake to the main beach, still part of Ninety Mile Beach, seeing numerous black swans on the way in the lagoon.
Along the foreshore in Lakes Entrance are a number of carvings in the stumps of cypress trees originally planted as a memorial to World War 1 soldiers; very impressive update of the memorial.
Finally onto Foster ready for a day tomorrow exploring Wilson's Promontory.
