Hervey Bay to Brisbane
Up and off to Brisbane today but not before I had the full cooked breakfast at Villa Cavour, more excellent food.
First stop of the day was Noosa. The first upmarket town we have seen since flying north from Sydney; expensive shops and restaurants and more top end cars. Despite this it is a very nice location with great parks and extensive soft sand beaches. We enjoyed a very good picnic by the water and a toe in the sea.
Next destination was the Glass House Mountains inland. First, en route is Montville, a very pretty arts and crafts village and a definite Sunday day trip destination from Brisbane. We then drove on to Gardner's Falls. Not the highest we have seen but very picturesque and a big picnic spot and swimming location with a number of families and their dogs enjoying the water.
From the falls on to the Glass House Mountains. These are the remaining volcanic plugs of former volcano's, the original volcano sides having been worn away over the last 25 million years. There are 14 peaks in total, 10 of which we could see from the Glass Mountain lookout. We saw fantastic views of the mountains and across the forests and farmland as far as the coast and the sparkling sea beyond. Also in the distance we saw smoke rising from a fire.
On to Brisbane and once we cracked the intricate and complicated oneway road system, having taken a number of wrong turns followed by meaningful dialogue between ourselves, we found our apartment for the night; it was late and time to relax before exploring the city tomorrow.
