Today we left Cobar and headed for Dubbo - 301 km. It wasn't too hot today, I think we reached a maximum of 35 degrees in Dubbo. However, it's no longer a dry heat, not like we've experienced up to now. It's a much more humid heat, so that's something different to get used to.
We got on the road early, but stopped almost immediately at the Fort Bourke Look-out in Cobar. This is avery large open-cut mine in Cobar. They mined for copper, gold, zinc and lead. Quite an incredible view!
Even better, on the way out, Lisanne saw several kangaroos. The real thing (not in captivity or dead along the road). She was very happy!
We stopped at Narromine for a break, and found an old railway siding, which used to be used for loading sheep onto the train, which was now an old "shearing shed museum" - very interesting, and a nice bloke too. We also stopped at Trangie at the Goan Waterhole - very beautiful and peaceful.
Along the way we saw native crocuses everywhere! A big change from the red dust we've been looking at until now!
The remainder of the drive was uneventful, except for a particularly bad stretch of road.
(Lisanne saw 4 kangaroos and 5 emus during our drive.)
We arrived in Dubbo, and after a bit of shopping, got the caravan park and set up, before jumping in the pool. Not quite as refreshing as it could have been, because it was heated!! Yes, really, a heated pool in 35 degree heat. Didn't stop us from spending a couple of hours in it though!
Off to Dubbo Western Plains Zoo tomorrow.
