This morning we woke after a night with torrential rain. Fortunately, Harvey survived intact, with no leaks to be found. Hopefully the work which was done yesterday did the job.
We had a chat about our plans for the remainder of Lisanne's trip, and decided to change them.
You might have heard we had a little storm here on the East Coast recently, called Cyclone Debbie. We've been watching Debbie from afar, and hoping that any damage and after-effects would be minimal, but this has not been the case.
The area which we were heading to has been severely affected, and there is still much flooding, and more expected in the next few days.
So we had to decide whether to keep driving long distances every day, and hoping that the flooding would be gone by the time we got there, or spend our time here on the NSW coast and give the Great Barrier Reef a miss. We decided on the safer option, and we are spending Lisanne's remaining time on the NSW coast, and lower Queensland (ie. the Gold Coast and possibly the Sunshine Coast). We'll see what roads are open (the Pacific Highway, which runs from Sydney to Brisbane is currently closed by the NSW-QLD border).
So today we didn't go far.
We headed to Nelson Bay, and stopped at a winery and tasted (and bought) some lovely wines. Then we drove on to Nelson Bay, had a fantastic seafood lunch, and lay on the sand by the beach. Stunning scenery, some sunshine, lots of birds, and a nice caravan park. Lisanne is sleeping with us in Harvey tonight.
Tomorrow we head north again in search of more lovely places.
The weather today was 23 degrees.
