JJ's Big Adventure
Like Shanghai, I had no intention of going to Xiamen when I originally planned my trip. Unlike Shanghai, I am really glad that I went to Xiamen and Gulongyu Island.
Gulongyu Island not only has the laid back atmosphere that most islands do, but due to its history as a Portuguese Imperial settlement Gulongyu also boasts some wonderful Mediterranean Architecture. This place is a haven for tourists and well worth it to boot.
Presently almost all of the buildings are owned by the local municipality. As a result, the island is extremely underdeveloped and most of the buildings are in desperate need of repair. With that said, the place just screams potential and screams millions and millions of dollars in real estate development. As it is already happening in Xiamen across the harbor, I guarantee that Taiwanese businessmen will snap this place up in the next ten years and turn it into a gold mine.
Off to Hong Kong for a 10 hour bus journey.
