stayed in airlie beach for 5nights and went to the whitsunday islands on a day trip one day. whitehaven beach (on the pic) was sooo lush, the sand was totally different to normal sand, it had some ridiculous percentage of silica in it, it was really fine and didnt stick to your towel or anything, and when it was wet it felt like mashed potato..lush. the water was so shallow for so far out you could see stingrays and fish so easily, but had to be careful not to stand on the rays coz they burie themselves in the sand. we actually went on an old lifeboat which went really fast and was dead jumpy over the waves, was loads of fun (dad would love it, mam would hate it). pleased i took some seasickness tablets though! the best bit about that day was the snorkelling. we went to a little deep bay and saw loads! the coral was so colourful and wierd shapes, the photos dont do it justice because you cant see the colour much on the underwater camera. the fish were flippin huge! i was just swimming along nicely then this massive fish swam underneath me and i nearly died!
some woman was feeding the fish some bread then the big one came behind her and bit her fingerquite badly so we had to be careful for sharks because there was blood in the water. apparently theres a giant squid around there but we didnt see it. just missed the turtles, they must of swam away by the time we swam to where they had been swimming.
there was a really good market at airlie beach on the sat and i got a couple of nice bracelets only $5 each :) i also straightened my hair for the first time in ages!! i bought some cheapy ones in bowen. me and jonny opened up ausy bank accounts in airlie and the exchange rate was marvelous, haha.
