caught the bus this time.. first impressions of the hostel were crap, the hostel next door has a pool near our room and there were freeks shoutin on all night til after 3 in the mornin so i wasnt happy, it made me realise that i hate most americans immediatley after they open their mouths. i did shout some abuse from outside the room but they carried on and the hostel doesnt have an after hours number..conveniently.
anyways in the mornin we were up at the crack of dawn for our frazer island trip. not jokin the sea was sooo high because it was a new moon or something? and the bus had to drive through the sea to get onto the ferry. iv never seen a 4WD bus before, theyre class! we got off the ferry and there arent any roads on frazer island so we had to drive along the beach, which is fine normally, but not when the sea was either side of the bus! was a right laugh though.
going inland the roads are just sand so really bumpy and it was fun trying to stay seated normally. we were there for 2 days, and didnt want to leave, the food was lush, the room was lush and the island was stunning. we went on a small rainforest treck and saw an eel in the clear stream at the bottom. i cant explain how clear the stream was, sometimes you couldnt tell there was water there at all. we then went to a creek called eli creek, which was a natural lazy river of freshwater, it was quite cold but lush and there were fish around that you could see so easily.
we then went to a lookout called indian head and the sea looked lush. your not allowed to go in though becuase there are more sharks around there than in the southern hemisphere and box jellyfish (which has no antivenim) and sea snakes and pretty much anything else you can think of, sometimes crocs aswel which arent even meant to be that far south of the tropic of capricorn. and there is no doctor on the island, so i was persuaded not to go deeper that my shins.
day two we went to lake makenzie... you have to see it to belive it, honestly, its the clearest water ive ever seen, the underwater photos are clearer than in the swimming pool. its all rainwater and it gets to 11m deep, me and jonny swam to the drop off and got scared of the dark water haha. its lush to swim and not get salt water in your eyes. your not allowed to wear suncream to keep it nice. the sand there was 98% silica so white as anything. the only bad thing was gettin munched by march flies - horrible things! so i just dived into the water when they were chasing me which was a successful technique!
march flies did invade the bus so me and jonny had a march fly massacre (and now need clean towels). i never kill stuff but i didnt even feel bad!
we went on a walk to find a lake called lake wabby, and had to cross a km of desert and like a mirrage the lake appeared, the sand was so hot we raced down the sand hill and jumped in. (and also to avoid the march flies) it was totally different to lake makenzie, it was emerald green and had loads of fish. the water was so warm and nice to swom in, it went really deep quite sharpish so swimming to the middle was good fun. i thought it was a good idea to roll in the sand, and jump in the lake, but the sand didnt come off too well, so good job it wasnt as clear as lake makenzie coz the sand got places people wouldnt want to see! haha
it was a 2.5km walk back to the bus, which isnt far but when your being chased by flies and watching for snakes it seems like ages. me and jonny did it alone in hope the flies would attack the group instead, but soon got freeked out when we saw a snake, which turned out to have little legs and was just a wierd lizzard. but we did however see a redback spider on the path which can kill you.
fraser island is lush.
back at the rainbow beach hostel now, and sleaped well last night and got an ensuite when we only paid for a double so im happy again.
